Main Purpose
As an Occupational Therapist, you will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing specialist occupational therapy input within the neurobehavioural model. You will work closely with individuals who have acquired brain injuries (ABI), liaising with internal and external professionals, family members, and the People We Support to ensure comprehensive care.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Clinical / Professional Practice
- Work autonomously within a specialist clinical area, developing and utilising your skills and knowledge in neurological rehabilitation, with support and supervision from a more senior Occupational Therapist.
- Manage and prioritise a complex caseload of People We Support with varying mental and physical health needs, under the guidance of a senior OT.
- Complete the OT process using evidence-based and service user-centred principles, including assessment, formulation of treatment plans, implementation, and evaluation of interventions.
- Address occupational performance and skill deficits to enable service users to improve in areas such as self-maintenance, productivity, education, and leisure.
- Develop and deliver tailored programmes of care, ensuring comprehensive handovers to rehabilitation support workers or therapy assistants, and monitor progress through data collection.
- Delegate tasks appropriately based on colleagues’ competencies and take responsibility for the effective handover, monitoring, and review of treatment plans.
- Utilise interpersonal skills and empathy to engage with service users and families, especially those resistant to rehabilitation or experiencing distress.
- Conduct detailed risk assessments, ensuring they are regularly reviewed and updated, and communicate findings effectively with the team.
Leadership
- Manage your designated workload with supervision from a senior OT, identifying priorities and managing time and resources effectively.
- Recognise, report, and improve performance and practice, both personally and within the team.
- Support and challenge colleagues to maintain health, safety, and security at work, reporting actual or potential issues and proposing solutions.
- Stay informed about the political and economic climate impacting service delivery at local, national, and international levels.
- Promote the profession and the organisation, fostering partnerships across organisational and agency boundaries.
- Contribute to the clinical governance arrangements and quality agenda within occupational therapy and the clinical specialty, including attending Brainkind-wide OT meetings and implementing agreed outcome measures.
